3:30 p.m. additional message:
As we previously shared, we are dealing with the death of one of our Windsor High School students. Trained personnel at Windsor High School have been activated under our Crisis Plan to support students and staff. We also ask that you please be sensitive to any changes in your child's behavior over the next few days. Encourage your child to express his or her feelings and listen attentively.
It's helpful to recognize the various steps we all go through in the grieving process: denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance.
Some of the common reactions that children experience when reacting to a traumatic event are:
Restlessness, nervous behavior
Difficulty sleeping, nightmares
"Clingy" behavior, fear of being alone
Asking questions over and over again
Remembering previous losses and events
Resources for talking to your child can be found on the Windsor High School Counseling Office webpage under the Counseling Resources tab here.
In addition, tonight from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. counselors from North Range Behavioral Health will be available at Timberline Church located at 360 Crossroads Blvd. in Windsor.
